What is a Strong Magnet?

What is a Strong Magnet?

When you think about magnets, you think about strength. They’re one of the most curious materials on our planet, capable of minor tasks like holding a piece of paper against your fridge, to enormous undertakings like powering heavy machinery.

As you may know, not all magnets are created equal. Your everyday fridge magnet can reliably hold postcards, notes, and photos, but would have no chance with a cardboard box. The heavier the object, the stronger your magnet will need to be.

Various materials are used to form magnets, including Ferrite, Samarium Cobalt, Neodymium Iron Boron (NIB), and Alnico. Depending on your industry, you’ll need to invest in different kinds of magnets.

Which magnet material is the strongest?

All magnets have some degree of strength—but the only magnets that can be truly defined as ‘strong’ are Neodymium Iron Boron, or NIB, magnets. When you hear the term ‘strong magnet’, it refers to these rare earth magnets—the strongest magnets in the world today. You may also hear the terms ‘NdFeB’ or ‘Neo’ referring to neodymium magnets.

We describe NIB magnets as ‘rare earth magnets’ because they comprise rare earth element alloys—neodymium, iron, and boron. They are astronomically stronger than all other common magnet materials.

Magnet types vary by energy density, which is described as ‘BHmax’. The BHmax of a standard ceramic magnet is 3.5, while a neodymium magnet has a BHmax of 40.

Neodymium magnets are so strong that they are usable even in the tiniest sizes, as small as one millimetre in diameter. They offer lightweight, consistent, but incredibly strong magnetisation.

Why don’t we always use strong magnets?

While strong magnets have a broad range of industrial applications—sometimes, other types of magnets are better suited for the job.

Neodymium magnets aren’t ideal in every environment. For example, these ultra-strong magnets require incredibly high magnetising fields, and in some cases, a protective coating.

You can also only use NIB magnets under strict temperature conditions. Because of their extraordinary magnetic force, workers must take due care when handling them.

What are the common uses of strong magnets?

You’ll find neodymium magnets used within a vast range of industries, including:

  • Manufacturing
  • Automotive
  • Electronics and audio
  • Medicine
  • Home security
  • Jewellery making
  • Crafts and model making
  • Printing
  • Sales

For example, you’ll find neodymium magnets in burglary alarm systems, door catches, and locks within the home security industry. In the automotive industry, strong magnets wrapped within copper coils are used in the anti-lock braking system (ABS) sensors.

You’ll find strong magnets in acoustic pickups, microphones, headphones, loudspeakers, and more within the electronics and audio industries. They are also used within computer hard disk drives, smartphones, and other electronic equipment.

Conclusion

Neodymium Iron Boron magnets are the strongest type of magnet on the market today. Because of their incredible strength, neodymium magnets are useful even in the tiniest sizes. A wide variety of industries employ strong magnets in their work, including manufacturing, printing, home security, electronics, and more.

By understanding how and why strong magnets are used, you’ll know the best choice to make for your business.

Algorithmic FUE Explained: How Structured Planning Is Changing Hair Transplantation

Few areas of cosmetic surgery have been reshaped by technique and technology as much as hair restoration. Extraction tools have become finer, magnification has improved, and planning has moved from freehand estimates toward structured, protocol-driven work. Yet patients who read about "advanced" or "revolutionary" methods often struggle to separate genuine clinical progress from marketing language. This guide explains how modern FUE works, what it means to plan a transplant algorithmically, how Algorithmic FUE fits into that picture, and how to judge any technology claim critically. From strips to follicular units: a short history For decades, the standard approach to hair transplantation was strip surgery: a thin band of scalp was removed from the back of the head, dissected under microscopes into follicular units, and implanted into the recipient zone. The method works and remains in use for selected cases, but it leaves a linear scar and requires a longer healing period. Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) emerged as an alternative in which individual units of one to four hairs are removed directly from the donor area using a small circular punch. The scars are tiny and dispersed, which allows patients to wear short hair without a visible line. As tools and training improved, FUE became the dominant technique worldwide. Its flexibility also created a challenge: because the method can be adapted in many ways, results depend heavily on the surgeon's judgement and discipline. What "algorithmic" planning means in practice In everyday language, an algorithm is simply a defined sequence of decisions. Applied to hair transplantation, it means that the key choices of the operation, where grafts are taken from, which grafts go to which zone, at what angle and density they are implanted, follow a documented logic rather than being made ad hoc during surgery. A structured plan typically addresses several questions in a deliberate order: The value of a structured method is consistency. When each case is reasoned through the same sequence, it is less likely that an important variable will be overlooked on a busy day, and it is easier to review and teach the approach to other physicians. Algorithmic FUE at Hairmedico Clinic Algorithmic FUE is the proprietary technique name used at Hairmedico Clinic in Istanbul, founded and led by Dr. Arslan Musbeh. It describes the clinic's protocol-based approach to planning graft extraction and implantation, and it is applied within a one-patient-per-day schedule so that the surgeon can supervise each step of the procedure. Dr. Arslan Musbeh graduated from Odessa State Medical University in 2000, is an active member of FUE Europe, and has taught as a faculty instructor on the DIU Calvitie programme at Université Claude Bernard Lyon 1 since 2019. The clinic reports more than 4,500 procedures in total, with more than 3,000 performed personally by Dr. Musbeh. As with any proprietary method, patients should treat the name as a starting point for questions, and ask Dr. Musbeh during the consultation to explain exactly how the protocol applies to their own donor area and hairline. The anatomy of a well-planned FUE procedure Understanding each stage helps patients ask better questions and recognise what a careful operation looks like. Diagnosis and design. The surgeon examines the scalp, evaluates the stability of the hair loss and measures donor density. The hairline is designed with the patient, taking face shape, age and the likely future pattern of recession into account. The design should be reviewed and approved before the operation begins. Extraction. Using a fine punch, follicular units are removed from the donor area. The aim is to harvest evenly and to avoid creating zones that look thin once the hair is cut short. The depth and angle of the punch must match the direction of the follicle, otherwise there is a risk of transection, in which the follicle is cut and cannot grow. Sorting and storage. Grafts are counted, grouped by the number of hairs and kept in a suitable solution while they are outside the body. Short, controlled storage times support survival. Recipient site creation. Small channels are created at a predetermined angle, direction and depth. This stage is decisive for the natural appearance, as it fixes how each graft will sit and how the hair will grow. Implantation. Grafts are placed into the channels with attention to their orientation. Single-hair units go to the leading edge of the hairline, and multi-hair units are positioned behind it. Aftercare and review. The patient receives written instructions and a schedule for reviews during the first year. Tools and technologies: what they do and what they do not...
