People in developing countries are fully used to online shopping however it is a relatively new concept for most of the people in Pakistan. With the influx of Chinese smartphones, there are now 161 million mobile subscribers in the country.

While on the other hand, the availability of cheap broadband has also fueled the number of internet users. According to PTA (Pakistan Telecommunication Authority), there are 65.13 million broadband users in the country. Many experts believe that these numbers may double in the next 5 years.

With the government of Pakistan supporting initiatives like “Digital Pakistan” and treating the internet as a basic human right, it may bring revolutionary changes both socially and economically in Pakistan.

Furthermore, you may have already read it from different reports that people are increasingly turning towards online shopping in Pakistan. The internet has already changed the behavior of Pakistani customers by shifting it towards web shopping.

But how things are evolving due to the Internet? Is it just restricted to shopping online? Or internet users in Pakistan are making the internet even if they will be making an in-store purchase.

Google’s Survey on online shopping trends in Pakistan:

A recent survey published by Google has found new insight into the evolving online shopping scene of Pakistan. In this survey, a total of 2,500 people aged between 18 to 55 years old participated. The sample included only skincare products, smartphones, and women’s fashion wear categories.

Around 33% of the participants belonged to the rural areas and they had already made a purchase in last in the last 90 days. The collected data was divided into pre-purchase, point of sale and post purchase.

Here are the findings of this study.

(i) Pakistani’s Use Internet to Learn about Products.

The survey reveals that Pakistani likes to window shop online before making a purchase. This is not limited to online purchases as people also use the internet to get more information about desired products before going to a physical store.

72% of the people who participated in the survey searched for beauty care products, 82% searched for mobile phone. Overall 89% of people turned to internet shopping in Pakistan to seek more information about the desired product. This shows that the internet helped buyers in making up their minds about the specific product.

(ii) Most of the People who searched the internet also purchased the Products.

Another significance of this survey was that most of the people who searched for products online in Pakistan also ended up making the purchase as well from the internet. 7 out of 10 participants of the survey revealed that they purchase skincare products after searching about it online.

While 6 out of 10 people said the same about mobile phones and 7.5 bought women`s fashion wear from an online store.

(iii) People also search on the Internet after the purchase as well.

Online Shopping Customers in Pakistan like to search on the internet even after making a purchase. So, in other words, it does not just end with making the purchase.

The consumers search for tutorials features of the products, ways of the styling of their clothing as well as reading and writing reviews about smartphone devices.

Conclusion.

It can be concluded that the Pakistani E-commerce customer is not different from other countries. Whether its online purchase and they are looking for a reliable online shopping site, or want to visit a nearby physical store, they use the internet to make their purchase decision easier for them. So, in other words, the internet is shaping up their behavior.
