Teach English Abroad: TEFL Certification, Why It Matters, and How To Get One

Teach English Abroad: TEFL Certification, Why It Matters, and How To Get One
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

If you’re interested in teaching English as a foreign language, or TEFL, as it’s commonly known, then getting your certification first is essential. While you could get a job without certification and start working right away, you’ll probably find it much easier to find a position with the right credentials.

We look at the benefits of getting your TEFL certification and explain where and how to get one. We also take a look at what an employer requires from applicants, and how to leverage the previous experience that you have under your belt when applying for these positions. Let’s dive in!

Why is TEFL Certification Important?

If you’re thinking about teaching English abroad then getting your TEFL certification is a must. There are a number of reasons why this is the case, but the most important one is that this will show potential employers that you’re qualified for the job.

A number of employers will require applicants to have a valid TEFL certificate before even considering hiring them. If you don’t have one, you’ll probably be put on a waiting list until you do. And in some cases, you’ll be rejected altogether.

Another reason is that TEFL certification programs give you a leg up in the job market. You’ll find that there’s stiff competition for English teaching jobs, especially if you’re looking to work in Asia or South America. Having a TEFL certification shows that you’re serious about being a teacher and that you have a basic grasp of the best practices. It also means that you have a certain level of qualification that people who don’t have it don’t have.

How to Get a TEFL Certification?

The first thing to do if you’re looking to get qualified for TEFL is to research your options. There are a number of different TEFL certification courses that you can choose from, so you’ll want to make sure you pick one that suits your needs and your budget.

You can find TEFL courses online or in person. The in-person courses are often more expensive, but you will have the benefit of being able to ask questions and interact with other students face to face. Online courses tend to be cheaper and more flexible, but you might have to do some extra research to make sure you find one that’s reputable.

Once you’ve found a course that you’re interested in, you’ll want to look at the syllabus and make sure it’s valid and up to date. Take a look at what previous students have said about it, too.

Pros of Having a TEFL Certification

There are a number of benefits to having a TEFL certificate. For one, it shows potential employers that you are qualified to teach English. You’ll likely find it much easier to find work with a TEFL certification. Employers will be more likely to hire you since you have a basic grasp of the best practices in the field and you’re qualified to teach English.

In addition to that, you’ll be able to charge more for your services. You’ll also be able to move to another country easily if you want since you’ll have all the necessary credentials. Another benefit of having a TEFL certification is that you will be able to gain valuable experience in the field before you get a TEFL job. This will make you stand out when applying for jobs and will make it easier to find work at all.

Cons of Having a TEFL Certification

While there are a number of benefits to having a TEFL certificate, there are a few downsides to consider, too. For one, you will have to pay to get your certification, which can be expensive depending on the course you take.

In addition to that, it will take time to finish the course and receive your certificate. You won’t be able to start teaching right away, which can be a downside for people who need to start working as soon as possible.

Conclusion

Teaching English as a foreign language has become increasingly in demand. It will certainly be a lucrative career choice for those with the certification to prove their skills. The demand for foreign language instructors is also increasing at a rapid pace. The TEFL certification is one of the most sought-after and coveted credentials for those who want to teach English as a foreign language.

Algorithmic FUE Explained: How Structured Planning Is Changing Hair Transplantation

Few areas of cosmetic surgery have been reshaped by technique and technology as much as hair restoration. Extraction tools have become finer, magnification has improved, and planning has moved from freehand estimates toward structured, protocol-driven work. Yet patients who read about "advanced" or "revolutionary" methods often struggle to separate genuine clinical progress from marketing language. This guide explains how modern FUE works, what it means to plan a transplant algorithmically, how Algorithmic FUE fits into that picture, and how to judge any technology claim critically. From strips to follicular units: a short history For decades, the standard approach to hair transplantation was strip surgery: a thin band of scalp was removed from the back of the head, dissected under microscopes into follicular units, and implanted into the recipient zone. The method works and remains in use for selected cases, but it leaves a linear scar and requires a longer healing period. Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) emerged as an alternative in which individual units of one to four hairs are removed directly from the donor area using a small circular punch. The scars are tiny and dispersed, which allows patients to wear short hair without a visible line. As tools and training improved, FUE became the dominant technique worldwide. Its flexibility also created a challenge: because the method can be adapted in many ways, results depend heavily on the surgeon's judgement and discipline. What "algorithmic" planning means in practice In everyday language, an algorithm is simply a defined sequence of decisions. Applied to hair transplantation, it means that the key choices of the operation, where grafts are taken from, which grafts go to which zone, at what angle and density they are implanted, follow a documented logic rather than being made ad hoc during surgery. A structured plan typically addresses several questions in a deliberate order: The value of a structured method is consistency. When each case is reasoned through the same sequence, it is less likely that an important variable will be overlooked on a busy day, and it is easier to review and teach the approach to other physicians. Algorithmic FUE at Hairmedico Clinic Algorithmic FUE is the proprietary technique name used at Hairmedico Clinic in Istanbul, founded and led by Dr. Arslan Musbeh. It describes the clinic's protocol-based approach to planning graft extraction and implantation, and it is applied within a one-patient-per-day schedule so that the surgeon can supervise each step of the procedure. Dr. Arslan Musbeh graduated from Odessa State Medical University in 2000, is an active member of FUE Europe, and has taught as a faculty instructor on the DIU Calvitie programme at Université Claude Bernard Lyon 1 since 2019. The clinic reports more than 4,500 procedures in total, with more than 3,000 performed personally by Dr. Musbeh. As with any proprietary method, patients should treat the name as a starting point for questions, and ask Dr. Musbeh during the consultation to explain exactly how the protocol applies to their own donor area and hairline. The anatomy of a well-planned FUE procedure Understanding each stage helps patients ask better questions and recognise what a careful operation looks like. Diagnosis and design. The surgeon examines the scalp, evaluates the stability of the hair loss and measures donor density. The hairline is designed with the patient, taking face shape, age and the likely future pattern of recession into account. The design should be reviewed and approved before the operation begins. Extraction. Using a fine punch, follicular units are removed from the donor area. The aim is to harvest evenly and to avoid creating zones that look thin once the hair is cut short. The depth and angle of the punch must match the direction of the follicle, otherwise there is a risk of transection, in which the follicle is cut and cannot grow. Sorting and storage. Grafts are counted, grouped by the number of hairs and kept in a suitable solution while they are outside the body. Short, controlled storage times support survival. Recipient site creation. Small channels are created at a predetermined angle, direction and depth. This stage is decisive for the natural appearance, as it fixes how each graft will sit and how the hair will grow. Implantation. Grafts are placed into the channels with attention to their orientation. Single-hair units go to the leading edge of the hairline, and multi-hair units are positioned behind it. Aftercare and review. The patient receives written instructions and a schedule for reviews during the first year. Tools and technologies: what they do and what they do not...
