Nepal, the land of Gautam Budha and the advocate of peace to the World Is a white, safe country. In comparison to other nearby countries like India, China, and Bangladesh, the crime rate in Nepal is very low. Whether it Is a local crime or an attack on tourists, the crime rate in Nepal is very low.

Yes, Nepali is a very safe country for tourists. The crime rate in Nepal is lower than in other South Asian countries. The activities of attack and theft by tourists have been rarely reported. However, since most of the trekking route lies in the unknown and remote land of the Himalayas along the forest, the chances of wild animal attacks will remain when you are hiking alone. Considering the safety and protection of the tourist, the Nepal government has made it compulsory to hire a guide before you book your treks to Nepal. This way, you can hike solo and yet be assured of safety while trekking to Nepal.

While trekking in Nepal, you will mostly be wandering in the local villages. These villages have people with pure hearts and souls. Usually, Nepalese from the villages are quite respectful towards tourists, and they are very helpful and welcoming.

Is solo trek banned in Nepal?

No, Solo trekking is not banned in Nepal. All the famous trekking routes, such as Annapurna base camp, Everest base camp, Langtang Valley Trek, etc., allow you to go for a solo trek in Nepal. However, you will need to hire a guide to accompany you just to show you the route and book the hotels. The guide is only there to help you with difficulties and ensure your safety. However, there are few restricted trekking areas in Nepal where the government makes it compulsory that you be in a group of at least two people. These restricted regions include Manaslu Circuit Trek, Dolpo, Rare, etc.

Can you trek in Nepal without a guide?

No, as per the latest update in the trekking rules by the Nepal government, it is now compulsory to hire a trekking guide to Nepal. Further, you must hire a guide who has a license from the Trekking Agency Association of Nepal. Also, we request that you hire a guide with a few years of experience who has been to the route you’re travelling a couple of times.

Trekking guide booking should be done before you apply for the trekking permit. A trekking guide in Nepal costs between $25 to $30. The trekking guide in their initial year of service can cost you less in comparison to trekking guides who specialise in mountain climbing and restricted area trekking.

Safety tips while travelling Solo in Nepal

  • When you’re travelling alone in Nepal, we recommend that you go for a popular trekking route such as Annapurna, Everest or Langtang. This famous trekking route has many accommodations and villages along the way, and there is little chance for you to get lost. Also, you will meet other travellers along the way who will assist you in the journey.
  • Use tourist buses or private cabs whenever possible. Local buses in Nepal are not very clean and safe, and you will likely get lost without proper guidance.
  • Make sure that you have travel insurance that covers all of your delays, cancellations, losses, and thefts during the trek.
  • While you book the trekking package, make sure that you are booking with a reputed travel agency or a trusted one. The travel agency might play a role in hampering your safety.

Safety tips for females while travelling Solo in Nepal

  • First and foremost, hiring a female guide if you travel alone in Nepal is highly recommended.
  • It is always wise to carry a safety case that includes a small knife and pepper spray in your backpack.
  • Be careful while you pick the accommodation. In the city area, do not book cheap-looking hotels; rather, book clean and comfortable rooms with staff who look very professional. In the mountain region, your guide will obviously help you book a good accommodation.
  • Be careful while You make new friends. Especially when you meet new boys on the trekking route, there is a high chance they will turn out to be frauds.
