FAT-8DY Fiber Access Terminal Enclosure

FAT-8DY Fiber Access Terminal Enclosure

The FAT-8DY Fiber Access Terminal Enclosure is an outdoor hardened connectivity enclosure designed for fiber-to-the-premises (FTTP) and fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) network deployments. With its compact design and variety of configuration options, the FAT-8DY allows network operators to extend fiber connectivity in locations ranging from multi-dwelling units (MDUs) to single-family homes.

Applications

The FAT-8DY encloses and protects optical fiber splices, connectors, and passive optical components, providing a flexible platform for fiber network access point creation. Its IP65 rating makes it suitable for wall or pole mounting in exposed outdoor environments subject to moisture, particulates, pollution, and a wide temperature range.

With up to 16 pre-loaded SC/APC adapter ports, the FAT-8DY enables direct customer drop cable connections without requiring field installed hardened connectors. This plug-and-play approach accelerates service activation while eliminating specialized labor and tools. The unloaded adapters further ensure seamless compatibility with standard connector types like LC, ST, and SC.

For fiber splicing and routing, the FAT-8DY contains integrated splice trays supporting up to four splices each. These trays accommodate heat shrink protective sleeves for secure mechanical and environmental protection. The enclosure interior also allows for the installation of micro fiber splitters to enable multiple customer connections from a single feed cable.

Altogether, the flexibility and capacity provided within the compact FAT-8DY footprint make it suitable for deployment in fiber access networks like fiber-to-the-building (FTTB), fiber-to-the-curb (FTTC), fiber-to-the-node (FTTN), and a wide range of business and residential FTTx applications.

Specifications

The FAT-8DY has an environmentally sealed rectangular housing measuring 287 x 172 x 100 mm constructed from ultraviolet-resistant, flame-retardant polymers. Two 14mm ports at midspan locations on the long sides allow for through-routing of distribution cable to downstream enclosures.

Inside the enclosure, up to four splice trays provide capacity for six or twelve splices each for a total of 24 or 48 fiber splices. These trays allow splicing of various cable types like standard singlemode (G.652) and bend-insensitive (G.657) fibers. The FAT-8DY’s adapter panel can be equipped with up to sixteen pre-loaded SC/APC adapters available in simplex or duplex configuration.

The FAT-8DY enclosure has an operating temperature range of -40°C to +60°C, ensuring year-round reliability through seasonal and daily temperature fluctuations. The housing provides an IP65 level of protection, keeping internal components dry and clean in the presence of moisture, dust, pollution, and other environmental contaminants.

Wall and pole mounting options allow for versatile deployment. Stainless steel brackets secured with tamper resistant hardware ensure robust mechanical stability for extended field lifecycles.
