Making videos for product promotions and marketing became a trend in 2015. And we can say that 2016 boosted this trend when we saw numerous brands attempting video sharing as a part of their marketing campaigns.
This trend was on fire when in the same year, Snapchat introduced stream, and Instagram introduced its live video feature, with Twitter following behind with video auto-play. That very year, Facebook didn’t lag and introduced its video ads, and, the famous, native live streaming feature.
These days I cannot switch on my Spectrum TV Silver without noticing one celebrity or another streaming a live video on one channel or another. It has become such a strong marketing tool. I have to agree, live video is a great way to build an authentic relationship with your customers. So how can you give an extra edge to your live videos?
Personalize your Videos
There are two possible formats to make live videos.
Format 1: this doesn’t include you in the frame. This format can suit you if you are making videos related to travel or food. In this type of video, you focus your video frame on things, the background, or natural scenes. You narrate while you show.
Format 2: if you are working specifically on the promotion of a single brand or one of its products, it becomes the focus of your video. This video contains personal stuff mostly. It can include other people, backgrounds, or voices in context to the brand, but the focus is on you.
If you have marketing to cater to or are working for a brand, you should choose format 2 for going live.
Go Unscripted
If broadcasting and streaming are new to you, and the idea of speaking in front of so many people makes you nervous, relax. This is natural and happens to all of us. With the passage of time, you’ll get used to it, and eventually start making better videos, and this would take time.
This doesn’t mean you can make the terrible mistake of writing the script for your live videos.
If you are reading from a written script, this puts doubt in the minds of your viewer about the authenticity of your content, leading to putting your product validity in suspicion.
Talk naturally; confidence is attractive. But, you can prepare some key-points to help you during the video. Key-points look natural, and a casual off-camera glance is considered human. They can give you an idea about what to talk about, and you can fill up the rest.
Deliver Promptly
Deliver your ideas to people, and make sure to deliver them fast. Even the most loyal of your video fans are not going to sit for hours to enjoy your ranting. Be sure of what ideas you are presenting, and present them fast.
While browsing for videos, looking at a long video time instantly puts me off. Keep your content as short as possible. In no way exceed the 10-minute limit, unless your topic demands it.
Invest in Your Hardware
The quality of your live video matters a lot. When you compromise on the quality of your video-making equipment, you compromise on the chances of the sale of your product. A good smartphone is enough if your video is shot outdoors.
But if your setup is in an office, you need to be a bit more formal regarding the equipment. You have to keep factors like lights and sound in mind. The quality of your sound is the most important factor in conveying your message forward.
It is also a good idea to make a sample video to check the quality before you go live.
A Good Joke Never Hurts
Who doesn’t like a good joke? But you don’t have to be funny, just for the sake of it. Nothing looks as bad as a forced joke or a fake laugh. But also, don’t scare people away by being serious and stern during your video.
Stay natural, stick to your kind of humor, whatever it is. A naturally comfortable person is going to attract more people than an unnaturally fake one. The right kind of humor can keep your content in the minds of people for a long time.
Be Authentic
Here, don’t be a celebrity. You don’t need to go overboard just to stir controversy. If your content is good, it will bring you views anyway. A content or a brand with no character can gain instant success with cheap marketing tactics, but it is impossible to maintain this status for long.
Your audience can see through the façade, and you have to retract the false storyline you created for a few likes or comments. You will lose credibility and your audience.
The videos with a high number of views are broadcasted on different TV channels later. Once I missed the live video by Jennifer Aniston but later found it being broadcasted on an entertainment channel on my Spectrum TV streaming service.
