There are a variety of free ways to listen to music without paying for a streaming service, including Amazon’s free tier and services such as BBC Sounds, Planet Radio and Spotify.
Alexa allows you to access numerous services. To do so, navigate to the Settings menu on the app and tap on Default Services before choosing which of them should become your defaults.

Amazon Music
Amazon Music is a voice-enabled streaming service designed for fans, artists and creators to interact through personalized music discovery features like curated playlists, artist livestreams and Amazon Exclusive podcasts. Amazon offers various subscription plans including Prime (free music streaming + other benefits) or Amazon Music Unlimited (15 USD monthly subscription fee).
Users of Amazon Music can enjoy streaming their favorite tunes across mobile phones and desktop computers, Fire tablets, smart TVs, Echo devices and smart watches and cars equipped with Alexa. Songs or radio stations can also be selected with voice control while users can pause or stop tracks using just words – the interface should feel intuitive to regular Spotify users in no time!
To connect the Amazon Music app to Alexa, open the Alexa app and navigate to Settings > Music & More. Navigating down the list, find and select your preferred streaming music service from Default Services (or Family Default Services for shared accounts) section and make changes as appropriate.
Spotify
Spotify combines streaming and customization technology to provide its users with millions of songs, albums and podcasts. Available with both free and premium accounts, it provides music lovers with access to millions of tracks while offering them various features that allow them to sync playlists across devices.
Connecting your Spotify account to Alexa devices is simple and straightforward. Simply open the Alexa app, navigate to More > Settings > Music & Podcasts, and set Your Default Services as your preferred service to manage on-demand music, artist/genre stations and podcasts.
If you are having difficulty connecting your Spotify account to Alexa, make sure both apps are up-to-date and that the device is connected to a stable Wi-Fi network. Also ensure your subscription has not expired; only premium accounts can be linked. If problems still arise, try revoking access from Spotify website before trying again in Alexa app; otherwise it could be related to home Wi-Fi router issues.

Deezer
Deezer boasts over 14 million global subscribers and now joins Amazon Echo devices’ voice assistant to join a growing list of streaming services accessible through voice control. Premium accounts enable you to use Alexa for everything from playing music or Flow (Deezer’s personalized playlist), playlist creation, or anything else you wish.
Deezer offers family plans that support up to five listeners simultaneously and feature kid-only profiles for added peace of mind when it comes to inappropriate songs being streamed onto children’s devices. Furthermore, Deezer allows offline listening with no ads present – an advantage over Spotify which only offers family plans with two users at any given time.
To link Deezer with Alexa, open the Alexa app and navigate to Settings Music Select your music service of choice before tapping Change as the default. Or simply say: “Alexa, play Peter Gabriel on service>,” where “service>” represents your preferred service name. Using this same method you can also integrate Google Play Music or Apple Music onto your Alexa device using different command grammar – please read all instructions prior to tapping Enable for use!
Google Play Music
Unfortunately, Amazon’s decision to discontinue Google Play Music as a cloud storage option means users who wish to keep listening to their local library on Alexa must either switch to Apple Music or find another way of listening. GeeMusic may provide one solution but can be complex – offering only basic media controls like pausing and pausing music playback – making this method impractical for local collections. Luckily there’s another easy solution which doesn’t involve third-party apps: stream your music onto a Plex server on PC/Mac and connect it via Bluetooth from Echo device connected via bluetooth device!
To do this, open the Alexa app on either an iPhone or Android phone and navigate to its Settings. Scroll down to “Alexa Preferences,” tap Music & Media and you’ll see any services already linked as well as an option to link new services – click it, choose which service you want and follow its instructions to link them all securely into your account – once linked, Alexa will automatically play them when asked “Play my library”!
Apple Music
Apple Music subscribers can stream their content directly to Alexa using compatible Echo devices and an active subscription – with some promotions or phone plans including additional months free trial subscription. Once that is all set up, open up the Alexa app on an Android or iOS smartphone, tap “Link New Service”, and follow its prompts for setup.
Once signed in with your Apple ID, your music is instantly ready to play back on any Alexa-enabled speaker or device.
Make Apple Music your default music service in the Alexa app to avoid constantly saying, “On Apple Music,” every time you ask Alexa to play something. Just head to the lower-right corner, tap More, scroll down to Music & Podcasts, and make Apple Music your default service there. Depending on which service it is, this page may also provide details regarding command grammar you will use with each command as well as an “Enable to Use” button.
