The Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs summoned a senior official at the Chinese Embassy in Manila to protest water cannon fire fired by a Beijing Coast Guard vessel at a Manila patrol boat in the South China Sea.
As reported by AFP, Thursday (SEMISLOT88), Philippine authorities called the incident “harassment of Philippine ships”. In the incident, two Filipino ships were shot at with water cannons by a Chinese Coast Guard ship patrolling near Chinese-controlled Scarborough Shoal.
Scarborough Shoal is a coral reef located near the Philippines, but is controlled by China. Scarborough Shoal has several times become a point of conflict in the waters of the South China Sea which has become a dispute between the two countries.
