When losing weight, can you target specific areas?

When you have been on a weight loss journey for some time and you have started to enjoy the results of your hard work, you might notice that you are not losing fat equally across the body, or you may notice that some areas of fat are more stubborn than others. With diet and exercise you can burn fat and lose weight, but you can’t target your efforts to specific parts of the body, for example the stomach or the arms. You can aim to improve strength and flexibility, and increase muscle mass in specific areas and specific muscle groups, but you can’t target fat in the same manner.

When you gain weight, your body creates fat cells. These fat cells are then used to store energy until your body can use the energy up. When we overeat and fail to burn the excess calories energy stored up doesn’t get burned up and we grow in size and gain weight. However, when we lose weight, through diet, exercise or a combination of both, our bodies burn the energy stored in the fat cells, but it does not in fact remove the fat cells. The fat cells remain there, ready to store new energy when you once again consume an excess of calories.

This is why many people suffer from “stubborn fat areas” on the body. These are deposits of fat that are just so much harder to shift, and even when you do burn the fat, it just comes back immediately once you have a bit of a cheat period.

Living healthy

For your health and wellbeing you should eat well, drink plenty of water and exercise regularly. There are no alternatives and there is no debate, living well is important to a healthy and long life. Yet, funnily enough, most of us are more motivated to live healthy because we want to look good. Being healthy seems for many to be secondary. For many of us the idea of feeling good is great, but looking good is better.

Looking good

There are some amazing treatments out there that will help us to boost and supercharge our healthy diets and exercise regimes.
