Why Maintaining Oral Health Is Important?

Why Maintaining Oral Health Is Important?

Oral health care should be an important part of your everyday routine. Here’s why

Oral hygiene is more important than just trying to show off the perfect smile.

A perfect smile is the first impression a stranger will have of you. You can only get the perfect smile if you maintain good oral health.

But there’s more to oral health than having the perfect smile.

Having good oral health can be linked to having an overall good health report.

It can also be linked to going for regular dental checks; at this Dentist based in Arlington or your local dentist.

Here are a few reasons why you be sure you are maintaining good oral health:

Self Esteem

Gum disease, decayed teeth, and bad breath are sure to put a dampener on your confidence levels.

Bad breath and decayed teeth will make it uncomfortable for you to speak to people, and you might have trouble eating.

Having good oral health will reflect on your perfect smile, and you will feel confident that you don’t have bad breath or decaying teeth.

Cognitive Diseases

According to psychiatric research, there is strong evidence linking gingivitis to bad cognitive abilities.

A study states that gingivitis may be related to the development of Alzheimer’s disease And to add that up, patients with Alzheimer’s disease are more likely to have gingivitis due to their declining memory.

Infection and Inflammation

Bad oral health has been linked to infection and inflammation spreading in other parts of the body.

Experts have pointed out the similarity between the type of degeneration of connective tissues in rheumatoid arthritis and gum disease.

Diabetes

Diabetes makes you more vulnerable to gum disease if you’ve had reduced blood sugar levels for an extended period of time.

Just like how poorly managed blood sugar levels can lead to kidney, liver, and circulation problems, poor blood sugar management can cause gum problems.

Pregnancy

Hormonal changes during pregnancy will leave you more vulnerable to bad oral health. These hormonal changes might cause gingivitis, which can result in preterm babies or babies with low birth weight.

Pneumonia

Oral bacteria can spread into your lungs and in a few rare cases, cause pneumonia, or other respiratory diseases.

Heart Disease

Cardiovascular problems like heart disease, strokes, and blockage of arteries are associated with chronic inflammation caused by gum disease.

There is strong evidence in research to suggest that bad oral health can cause cardiovascular problems.

Symptoms of Having Bad Oral Hygiene

If you have bad oral hygiene, then there are many ways that your body will indicate that you need to take better care of your oral health:

  • You might get swollen and painful gums.
  • You might get bleeding gums when eating or brushing.
  • You might have puss formation around teeth and gums.
  • You might have bad breath or a bad taste in the mouth.
  • You might get loose teeth or teeth that are migrating.
  • You might be experiencing sensitivity in your teeth and gums.
  • You might be unable to consume beverages that are too hot or too cold.
  • You might get a receding gum line that exposes too much of your teeth.

Diseases Manifesting as Oral Problems

Recent research has shown that many serious ailments have shown symptoms that manifest as oral diseases like mouth sores, ulcers, dry mouth, and swollen gums.

These are diseases like diabetes, kidney disease, heart disease, leukemia, oral cancer, or pancreatic cancer.

If you think these dental problems are manifesting even though you are maintaining good oral health, you should go to an orthodontist immediately.

How to Improve Oral Hygiene

If you are suffering from bad oral health, you can still put a stop to dental problems or any other health problems that might come your way.

Just remember to brush, floss, and use a mouthwash every day. It’s also important to visit your orthodontist regularly, just for a check-up, to make sure you don’t have any dental problems.
